ABOUT SPARTANS

WHO WE ARE

SPARTANS BASKETBALL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (SBAA) is a non-profit organization registered in the province of Ontario and founded on September 2006 in the city of Brampton.  It was officially registered as a non-profit corporation on March 13, 2007.

MISSIONS AND OBJECTIVES

The Club's main objectives are to institute and promote Spartans' team concepts through player development with advanced skill-set training for the betterment of basketball throughout the Peel Region and to establish and operate an athletic club for the purpose of:

  1. Promoting organized athletic sports, games and recreation and in particular, the sport of Basketball;

  2. Arranging matches and competitions and establishing and granting prizes, awards and distinctions;

  3. Fostering goodwill and sportsmanship.

IN THE BEGINNING

SPARTANS started its humble beginnings from a group of parents who gathered in late summer of 2006.  The desire of the group is to provide the players with proper instructions and to develop their basketball skills.  With this goal in mind, everyone gave a helping hand and volunteered in anyway they can to put up teams that made up the first batch of SPARTANS basketball teams.  Player training and practices were held at a number of school gymansiums at locations in Brampton and Mississauga.

THE ROOKIE SEASON (2006-2007)

In its inaugural season, SPARTANS participated in the PHYBA Winter Basketball League 2006-2007 with the entry of six teams. It was a great success for a rookie team: the TYKES and BANTAM divisions won 3rd Place; the MIDGET  landed 4th; and the GIRLS division made it to the final four.   In the MYAA Summer League of 2007,  its BANTAM team won the championship.  The club also participated in the MYBA InterColour Tournament in the Summer of 2007, where its GIRLS division won first place and the TYKES division won 2nd place.

At the end of the season, SPARTANS players, parents and friends celebrated their season's achievements with a Player and Parent Appreciation Night  for a great team effort and job very well done.  SPARTANS  also had a lot of great fun during the summer with a  club picnic at the Erin Mills Park where their members shared food together and held their first fund raising raffle  draw.
